Trying to get back on the work out train has not been easy, but I am trying to get healthy again. Is it just me or is it instantly harder to lose weight after you turn 25?

As, some of you may know, I had surgery in December to have my gallbladder removed. I have a post coming to the blog shortly on the process of the surgery, why I had my gallbladder removed and the Ketogenic diet.

I was offered to try out this at home health DNA kit and I was super interested to find out my results. Well, I got them and I figured what better way to share my results then to share them with all of you?!

Let me start off by saying that my results are not what I expected, but I did find the results interesting and I am determined to not let some of my issues hold me back from accomplishing my health goals. In the kit, you receive cotton swabs, an information packet and an envelope to mail your DNA back to the lab for testing. The process was super simple and I love how their is no guessing with this health test since it is DNA based.

In each of the category, they let you know which gene or genes are responsible for the trait. The main focus of this report is to find out your probability to lose weight and body fat from different diets and exercise. They rate your ability to utilize by low, below average and normal.

So now that I have given you a brief description, I will share my answers with you below.

Based on my results, I got that I have some genes that might cause me to have a “below average” ability to lose weight and keep it off. Which at first, I was upset for, but I guess it is better than getting a low chance. lol Also, I am wondering if me getting my gallbladder removed had any effect on my ability to lose weight or not.

As for exercises, they suggest that I use exercises that burn a lot of calories. That being said, ideal exercises for me would be:

  • Walking
  • Running
  • Cycling
  • Spinning
  • Aerobics
  • Dancing
  • Bootcamps
  • Circuit training with weights

I find this information super useful, because it allows me to focus on the key things that will more likely cause weight loss. The food portion was super interesting to me, it says that I do really well if I consume a lot of protein. Which I feel like is super hard to gain a huge intake of protein without getting the fat and carbs that come along with it. Knowing to focus on my protein intake is helpful and helps me gain clarity on how to control my diet. At the end of your report, they also supply you with a customized meal plan. This report tells you everything you would ever have to know, it evens let you know your vitamin levels and what foods you should eat to naturally increase those that are in the ‘low’ category.

I feel like this test was overall a great way to gain clarity on what I should focus on in order to lose weight. Plus now I have the understanding that I will have to work harder and smarter to keep the weight off.
